Subreddit Research: Finding Audiences Your Competitors Miss
A repeatable research loop for surfacing high-intent niche communities.

The obvious communities are saturated and heavily moderated. The valuable ones are adjacent, where your buyer discusses the job around your product rather than the product category itself.
01Start from the job, not the category
List the tasks your buyer performs in the week before purchase, then find where those tasks are discussed. A procurement tool sells into communities about vendor negotiation, not communities about software.
02Qualify with three filters
Before committing time, check:
- Comment-to-post ratio above roughly five, conversation, not broadcast
- Moderator rules that permit expert participation
- Recurring questions your team can answer better than anyone present
03Keep a living map
Maintain a simple sheet of communities, norms, and outcomes. The map is the asset; individual posts are not.
